What It Is

Planned Maintenance, Run Properly

Yacht maintenance management is knowing what needs doing on a yacht, when, who does it, what it costs and whether it was done properly. On a privately run yacht that job usually falls to the captain, on top of running the boat. CBM Marine takes it on, working with the captain and owner through our maintenance platform.

What Good Yacht Maintenance Management Includes

  • A schedule for every system, triggered by the calendar, by running hours, or both.
  • A record of every job: what was done, when, by whom and with which parts.
  • Parts, quotes and invoices tracked and checked against what was delivered.
  • Faults traced to their cause, so the same failure does not keep coming back.
  • A service history that can be audited at survey and at sale.

Why Maintenance Gets Harder Without A Technical Department

Large yachts and commercial ships have a technical department behind the crew. A privately run yacht usually has a captain, perhaps an engineer, and a system the crew built themselves. When the person who knows the boat moves on, records can fragment and planning can slip, and faults that planned maintenance would have caught reach the yard instead.

How CBM Marine Does It

We work with your captain or owner through the platform: scheduling the maintenance, helping with the work and the troubleshooting, ordering parts, finding the right procedures, contacting manufacturers and builders, and sourcing local professionals. When a job needs hands on site, we place an engineer on board as crew, employed by you and managed by us. You use what you need and pay for what you use, with no permanent crew position to carry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is yacht maintenance management?

It is the planning, scheduling, recording and checking of all maintenance on a yacht: engines, generators, electrical and hydraulic systems, safety equipment and the hull. Done properly, jobs come due before they become faults and every job leaves a record.

Do I need a technical superintendent for my yacht?

Most owners do not need a full-time superintendent. We provide the role when you need it, so one captain can run a complex yacht with someone ashore carrying the planning, the quotes and the invoices.

What is the difference between calendar-based and running-hours-based maintenance?

Some tasks are due by date, such as certificates and annual services. Others are due by engine running hours, such as oil and filter changes. A good system tracks both and tells the owner, the crew and the manager what is due and when.

Does a maintenance history affect resale value?

A documented, auditable service history gives a buyer and a surveyor evidence of how the yacht has been looked after, which supports its value at sale.

Who owns the maintenance data?

The vessel does. Your data stays your vessel’s property and can be exported whenever you want it.

Do you support yachts outside the UK?

Yes. We support yachts worldwide, with local professionals sourced and vetted in major ports.
