Refits And Yard Periods

Independent Support Through The Whole Yard Period

A refit or yard period is one part of running a yacht, and it is where a lot of the budget moves. CBM Marine supports the owner and the captain through it: writing the scope, comparing quotes, checking the work against what was specified and checking the invoices. We work only for the owner.

Before Anyone Quotes

A clear scope is the best protection for a refit budget. We write it with you and the captain, drawing on the yacht’s maintenance history, so every yard and contractor quotes for the same work.

Quotes Compared Like For Like

Quotes rarely describe the same job in the same way. We lay them side by side, so you can see what is actually different between them, what is missing and what is included.

While The Work Is Underway

Your captain is already running the boat, the crew and the yard. We take on the planning and the paperwork, and we can place an experienced engineer as crew on technically demanding, low-risk work that would otherwise wait in the yard’s queue: diagnosing faults before quotes are written, stripping and documenting equipment ahead of the specialists, running cables and controls, and checking before commissioning.

Sign-Off Against The Specification

Work is checked against what was specified and signed off only when it matches. Not every planned job gets done, on any vessel, so we plan for 110% of the scope. That gives the work that matters room to land, and the jobs that do not make it are logged and carried forward.

Invoices Checked Against What Was Delivered

Every invoice is checked against the agreed scope and what was actually delivered. The whole job ends up in one record that stays with the yacht.

Where An Engineer Fits

Most of the support is given from ashore. When a job needs hands on site, an engineer joins the yacht as crew, employed by you and managed by us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a yacht refit project manager do?

A refit project manager is the owner’s link to the yard and the contractors. The role covers the scope, the quotes, the schedule, the budget, the quality and the sign-off, and keeps everyone working to the same plan.

Do you work for the shipyard?

No. We work only for the owner, never for shipyards, contractors, suppliers or manufacturers.

Do I need a project manager for the whole yard period?

Not every yard period needs one full time. You can use us for the parts that matter most, such as the scope, the quote comparison and the sign-off, and pay for what you use.

Can you place an engineer on board during the yard period?

Yes. When a job needs hands on site, we place an experienced engineer as crew, employed by you and managed by us, and support them from ashore.

What happens to the paperwork afterwards?

The scope, the quotes, the work done and the invoices end up in one record that stays with the yacht. The data remains your vessel’s property.
